TOX Expert‘s teaching philosophy centers on respect, relevance and collaboration.
TOX Expert was founded in 2024 by Christine Frenette, a forensic toxicologist with over 14 years of experience in the field. Given the lack of private forensic toxicologist services in Canada, Christine took it upon on herself to offer this unbiased service to all and to crown or defense lawyers in criminal or civil matters where alcohol and/or drugs results matter.
Christine Frenette worked for 14 years as a bilingual Alcohol and Drug Forensic Toxicologist for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), providing expert witness testimony all over the country.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Laval University in Quebec City. She has an Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology Master’s degree from Guelph University and a second Master’s degree in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Gainesville in Florida.
She has focused her career on alcohol and drug impaired driving; data analysis and interpretation, results reporting, and testifying. She did over 2200 alcohol only analysis and authored over 2100 reports.
She has extensive experience teaching and training others - fellow toxicologists (internally at the RCMP, but also on the international learning platform https://drugimpairment.com/courses/alcohol-essentials-effects-on-driving/), university students (Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Trent University in Peterborough and Carleton University in Ottawa). She has trained hundreds of police officers on toxicology principles all over Canada.
She has also conducted seminars for judges and lawyers on alcohol and drug impairment, the relevancy of results and the impact of substance abuse on driving abilities.
In 2018, she became a member of the Canadian Society of Forensic Science (CSFS). Since 2020, she has been sitting on the Alcohol Test Committee (ATC), one of CSFS’ subcommittees, offering scientific advice to the Canadian Federal Minister of Justice on matters pertaining to alcohol testing in cases of drinking and driving, as well as advice related to new alcohol screening devices and approved instruments.
Since 2018, Christine has also been sitting on the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Technical Committee for the standardization and guidance in forensic science (ISO/TC 272), representing Canada and ensuring toxicology is properly considered in broad general areas such as the detection and collection of physical evidence, the subsequent analysis and interpretation of the evidence, and the reporting of results and findings.
Christine is known to be approachable, easy going and straightforward. She spares no time or effort to help others.
